How plug-in solar works

Four steps from sunlight to a lower electricity bill.

  1. 1

    Sun hits the panels

The panels produce direct current, even under clouds, just much less of it.

  2. 2

    The microinverter converts

It turns that into 120-volt alternating current and shuts off instantly if the grid goes down.

  3. 3

    The outlet feeds your circuits

Power flows through the plug into your home wiring and runs whatever is on first.

  4. 4

    Your meter slows down

What you use yourself, you no longer buy. Any surplus goes to the grid.
